“ On behalf of the families of Scott and Kari I want to welcome you all. Many of us may have wondered if we would ever see this day. Kari & Scott each seemed to be focused on a life of adventure and in no way was their goal to ‘settle down’.

I don’t think they have settled down or have any intention of doing so. They both have a love of adventure, a taste for risk.

What I think we have come here to celebrate with them today is the miracle of each finding a partner in this adventure. They are taking a mature and considered risk, in making a commitment to have the others needs, goals and dreams become their own. They are letting us all know they will have each others’ back.

Agreeing that this is why we are here, I now ask ‘Is there any lawful reason why these two should not be joined in marriage here today?’”

“I now ask ‘Who brings Kari here today and gives their blessing to this marriage?’

As the families meet today to join their children in marriage, we ask for Pam, Kari’s mother and Helen, Scott’s mother to come forward and light two candles to represent the individuals who will be joined in this union.

(Pam & Helen light the tapers and return to their seats.)

“A rose symbolizes love. As a red rose means romantic love, a white rose means familial love. Scott & Kari would like to present a white rose to their mothers at this time to signify that they do not leave their families behind, but join them together in a larger circle, drawing on the love of their families as they build a new family together.

Bride & Groom each take rose from Maid of Honor and carry them to their Mothers. They return to their places.

Scott do you have vows to offer Kari?

” I take you to be my wife, to be my partner and to be my life;
I cannot imagine life without you as the center of it everyday.
I want to be husband and father and everything else a man can be,
and I find I cannot be all of that without you.
I am better for having loved you and complete because you love me.

I take you to be my husband, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward for as long as we both shall live.

“ On behalf of the families of Kari & Scott, I ask for a blessing on these rings, and name their significance to be the unending circle of affection, respect and support which marriage embodies.

May these rings remind you that your love, like the sun, warms all it touches, like the moon, brightens the night, and like the eye, is the window to your inmost self.

Through the Eyes of Love

Scott and Kari are going to light their Unity Candle, a symbol of their marriage relationship. The candles from which they light it have been lighted by their mothers to represent their lives to this moment.
The lights, representing the strength, wisdom, and love they have received from their parents, are distinct, each burning alone. Kari and Scott will light the center candle to symbolize the union of their lives. As this one light burns undivided, so shall their love be one. We now extinguish the two separate flames as you are forever united as one in eternal love.


“ By the power vested in me by the State of California and the church, I hereby pronounce you to be lawfully wed, and to be husband and wife for as long as you both shall live. You may kiss the bride.”

I ask now that you all join me in a prayer:

I ask now of the family now joined together by this marriage,” Do you acknowledge and recognize this marriage and will you support these two in starting their life together as one?”
